The mission of NYA shall be to promote art and culture through voice, dance, musical instrument, and performing art programs. The objectives of NYA shall be to provide resources for youth (ages 4-20 years old) to develop their talents in the performing arts and to provide opportunities for youth to showcase their talents. NYA also promotes abstinence from drugs and alcohol. The Membership Agreement requires members to pledge to be alcohol and drug free, and to not associate with, support, or be a member of a gang

NYA's basic premise is that youth who have the opportunity to participate in the arts will benefit from the exposure and camaraderie provided by the organization. Experience shows that youth who develop a stage presence in the performing arts are usually leaders in school and professional environments. NYA emphasizes both performing arts and education and, to continue as active NYA members, youth are required to maintain high scholastic standards.
